HOME MADE FERTILIZER, SUCCESFUL INITIATIVE.
Denia has finalised the home made fertilizer project scheme with satisfactory results. The experience has been shared among 70 users, unifamiliar houses above all, but also 4 schools, 1 nursery and Maria Ibars high school. The objective of this pilot scheme which has been encorauged by Environmental Authorities as Pepa Ribes (Agenda 21 councillor) has reminded, is to reduce, reuse and recycle green wastes generated in the gardens "and Denia was ideal because of the great quantity of isolated houses on there, as well as the urbanisations which produce big quantities of green wastes", said Mrs. Ribes.
This initiative, which has involved 6 towns else, was launched last September with the distribution of 62 compost containers and 15 shredder among the applicants, by Novotec company technical supervision. During these 7 months, as explained José Coloma, technical responsible for the project, it has been made a monitoring and constant visits to the participants. The obtained samples have been sent to the laboratory "to know the compost quality".
Participation and dedication of volunteers have been assessed. First results of obtention of fertiliser are good, due to 23 of the 62 compost containers have obtained fertiliser during this period and the rest are in an advanced stage of the process. This pilot scheme has permitted 69 tons of organic matter hasn´t to be arranged by the Town Hall.
Users announced how difficult it has been to peal the compost, something it has been reflected on the report.
